Bill Bastian & the Highland Quartet

One of our longest running events is the Bill Bastian & the Highland Quartet Christmas Concert. While this concert first was hosted by the Park State Bank in Morgan Park in 1980s, the Church has been hosting the event for about half that time. We are incredibly lucky to be able to offer such a wonderful & unique musical tradition to the Western Duluth community. Each December, we bring in a large pine tree and deck the halls in advance of their visit. Bill Bastian is tenor with a background in both contemporary music and opera, having performed with several operas and symphonies. The Highland Quartet is composed of Steve Highland & Laurie Bastian on the violins, Betsy Husby on the cello, and Ron Kari on the viola, who are members of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. They perform for approximately an hour and a half, playing a mix of Christmas favorites, both with and without vocal accompaniment. After the music, we enjoy welcoming all guests downstairs for refreshments including coffee, tea, cookies, and bars.
