Upcoming Events – Carnival & Crafts
Today is the first day of school for many children and teens in our area. As the summer starts to fade, here at UPC we’re looking ahead to fall.
This year the Halloween Carnival will once again be returning to the Fellowship Hall on October 27th. After several years in the St. Margaret Mary rec building and then a three year break, we restarted the carnival last year. It’s a return to the smaller space, but we like to think of it as cozy. We’ll need several volunteers to help run the games, as well as set up and clean afterwards. Look for more information on that in the next several weeks. You can also rsvp on our Facebook event for updates and to be reminded when the carnival gets closer.
One week later, on November 3rd, we’ll be hosting the Fall Craft Sale and Bazaar. This event was not held last year, but some new organizers are at the helm for 2018. We’re signing up vendors now and are taking only one exhibitor per company (only one exhibitor for Norwex will be accepted, for example). There will food during the sale, as well as a raffle. You can rsvp for that event on Facebook as well, to see updates and be reminded when the day draws closer.
We hope you’ll consider joining us for one or both of these exciting events at U.P. Church!
Bringing Back the Halloween Carnival
It’s been a few years since we have been able to hold a Halloween Carnival. This year we are hoping to revive the tradition. With the closing of St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church, we will no longer be able to use their wonderful rec hall. As such, we are moving the carnival back to our own Fellowship Hall. We will be selling tickets for games, as well as food and drinks. Parents and kids of all ages welcome!

2015 Morgan Park 5k Walk/2.5k Run
Spring is well and truly sprung, and that means we at Morgan Park's United Protestant are busily planning the annual 5k Run/Walk! Mike Fastland is once again taking the helm to organize.
As with years past, the 5k course will wind through historic Morgan Park on the far west end of Duluth. In addition to two parks and the St. Louis River views, the course also passes the century-old homes and buildings of Morgan Park. The course is flat and paved the entire way, and it will both start and end at the church, at 88th Ave West and Arbor Street. Walkers are welcome as well in the shorter 2.5k walk (any jogging or running is prohibited in the 2.5k walk; participants may walk or run as they choose in the 5k). There will be water stops at the start/finish and about halfway along the course.
The entry fee for either the run or walk will be $15 before May 31st, or $20 on race day. We also have a special rate for groups – 4 participants for the cost of three! ($45 before race day, $60 on race day). The Church will be open for changing and restrooms during, before, and after the race. There is parking at the church, and on-street.
Trophies will be awarded for the top male and female racers in both the walk and run! T-shirts are available at $5. Results will be posted immediately following the race. The Awards Ceremony will begin about 5:45 in the church.
Refreshments and food are available upon finishing the course. There will also be a bake sale and a special raffle! Past raffle items have included gift cards from $5 to $50 to local businesses like Marine General and Sammy's Pizza, as well as tons of items on site.
Proceeds will go towards the renovation fund for the UPC Church in Morgan Park.
